Don’ts (and a Do) for beginers and PRO Models

Do not be a "no-neck monster." Try to elongate your neck for maximum extension.
Do not pose like a hoochie. (If you don’t know what a hoochie is, er...that's probably best.)
Do not be a limp noodle. Always pose with tension in your body completely from H2T (head to toe).
Do not play it safe and stay in the same pose. Mix it up with innovative poses. Your wildest pose could be the one that’s picked.
Do not show up to a photo shoot unless you are clean shaven, have a clean face, and clean hair.
Do not let hating how your hair or makeup is done affect your performance. Model through it.
Do not stare aimlessly when posing. Create intensity for the camera through your eyes. Smize (smile with your eyes)!
Do not slouch on the runway; pretend you have a wire through your spine that is pulling you up to the ceiling.
Do not be forgettable. Make an impression by showing your distinctive personality.
Do request to have your favorite music playing when you do a shoot! The beat will kick your poses up 10 notches!

Modeling: Breaking Into the Biz

Pick a favorite model and study them. Everything from the way they turn their head to their fierce runway walk.
Snapshots. You MUST have a beauty shot, from the neck up, before going anywhere. Have a friend with a nice camera take one in black and white!
Study, Study, Study. As Top Models always says, you need to know everything from fashion designers, photographers, supermodels, and all in between.

From No-Sees to Go-Sees!
Go-sees are one of the crucial things that a beginner model must know about. Tyra went on 10 go-sees a day in Paris! Here are some tips on how to make a lasting impression (at a go-see or an interview)

Be prepared! Practice your walk, poses, and faces in the mirror before you go.
Do your homework! Know something about the agency or client and be aware of scams. Not everything out there is legit!
Your make-up should be minimal to show off your natural beauty.
ALWAYS bring a pair of heels in case they ask you to walk.
No nail polish: Simple clear, nude, or sheer!
Pull your hair back so that they can see your face and bone structure.
Never be late!
Have good posture: Stand up straight, shoulders back.
Be honest! It’s okay to tell them if you don’t have a lot of experience. Wow them with your natural ability (this is why practice is so important!)

How To Work Your Flaws
Everyone has flaws. I’ve got 'em (small calves and a big forehead), you’ve got 'em, and your momma’s got em’, too! Even though I totally believe in embracing my flaws, I don’t always want to highlight them when I’m being photographed. Every top model knows the secrets to working her flaws. These are my tips on how to make your flaws work for you when you’re in front of that camera!
Hands on Hips = Smaller Waist. Putting your hands on your hips creates a background through your arms, which will make your waist appear smaller. (This is something you can apply to real life too! Try it the next time you walk into a room!)
Chin Up = Smaller Forehead.Always telling girls to chin up! Not only will it make a large forehead look smaller, it will also elongate the neck.
Tippy Toes = Bigger Calves. Standing on your tippy toes instead of flat feet will make your calf muscles appear bigger because they are working harder to keep you up!
Knees In = Slimmer Hips. Turning a knee in will make your hips appear slimmer. This will also give you a space between your thighs, which is something that most women don’t have.
Lean Forward = Smaller Bust. Hunch your back and bring your naval into your spine. This creates a slight lean forward, which will make your bust look smaller.
Emphasize Shoulder = Narrow Hips. Turn your body to the side and turn your shoulders toward the camera. The emphasis on your shoulders will narrow your hips.

CAN I BE A MODEL TOO?

OF COURSE, YES!!! EVERYONE CAN BE A MODEL. IT'S A MATTER OF CHOICE.

To New and prospective models, the mere thought of  whether they have what it takes to become a model is a trillion Naira question

You are likely to hear that to be a model you need to be beautiful, tall and slim with perfect proportions. Now this is certainly true for high fashion models, where designers want one type of model that they feel shows off their designs in the best ways possible.

However, if you do not fit this criteria, don’t despair as there are many other areas that you can work in successfully and lucratively as a model. The modeling industry needs all different shapes and sizes. It ranges from the models who are required for the runways of Lagos, Paris and Milan to those being seen in the background of TV commercials (popularly called "WAKA PASS") in Nollywood You need to find the right fit for you and your place in the industry and We at ModelsHUB306 Modeling Agency are here To help you with this as we have listed the different types of modeling jobs available and the criteria for each, and as with most things in life there are always exceptions. For any further inquiries, do not hesitate to send us an email to > modelshub306@gmail.com, We'll be more than glad to read from you and respond to all your questions with seasoned answers

*High Fashion

When you see the incredibly tall and lean figures that grace the runways and editorials for the leading fashion houses and designers, these are the High Fashion models. They are generally required to be between 172cm to 180cm (5”8 to 5”11), with a dress size of 4-6 US (6-8 UK), with a typical bust size of 34. The age range can be from 14 to 25. For guys the age range is more flexible and they can start from the age of 16 until their late 40’s. They need to be between 180cm to 188cm (5”11 to 6”2), with an excellent physique and a chest size of 94cm to 106cm (37” to 42”) and 76cm to 81cm (30” to 32”) waist. Guys tend to have longer careers if they look after themselves.

*Editorial Print

This is modeling for magazine editorials and covers such as Vogue, Elle etc. The standard requirements for these models are similar to those in High Fashion and you must be very photogenic Quite often the same models will work in both Editorial Print and High Fashion. These editorials provide great exposure for models even though the fees earned are sometimes relatively low. This is normal and it can take a few years to gain the experience needed to get the bigger paying jobs.

*Commercial Print

A huge market that encompasses every kind of print advertising. This can range from advertising in magazines to products on supermarket shelves to billboards. The benefit of working in Commercial Print as a model is that the target audience of the advertisers varies considerably. Naturally the brands want to attract and represent the people that will buy their products, so there are many opportunities here if you are not the High Fashion type.

*Catalogue Modeling

Companies create catalogues (print or online) to sell their latest clothing lines or various others products, and it’s the models job to make them look good. Here you will find many great opportunities for different model types, as the model is chosen to represent the target audience of the different companies. With the increasing number of websites that require models to promote their goods online, this is very lucrative for many models.

*Plus Size Modeling

Modeling for the larger body type, this type of modeling is on the increase and a relatively new phenomenon. If you’re confident, with great attributes and you are between the sizes of 12-16 US (14-18 UK) then this could be for you. More and more advertisers are using Plus Size Models to promote their products in a bid to appeal to a broader demographic. As a Plus Size model you will still need to have great skin, teeth and hair and have that something special about you. For High Fashion Plus Sized Models the height requirements remain at a minimum of 172cm (5”8)

*Glamour Modeling

Is modeling that emphasises a models sexuality. Glamour Modeling can range from lingerie and swimwear shoots, to artistic and nude photography to men’s magazines. You will need to be beautiful, sexy and confident, with an extremely outgoing personality. Height restrictions tend not to apply, which is the great attraction to many models. If you are considering this area of modeling, take care as there are many dishonest people that take advantage of young models who are eager to get into modeling. If you are interested in Glamour Modeling it’s advisable to have a reputable agency looking out for your best interests.

*Body Parts Models

An area not usually thought about for newcomers, but it is a very relevant sector of the industry. The most common body parts tend to be hair, eyes, lips, hands, legs and feet, which are used to promote many products in print and TV. You will need to have exceptionally well proportioned body parts and know how to look after them. This is definitely an area within modeling that’s worth considering as it can prove to be surprisingly profitable.

*TV Commercials

Modeling in TV commercials does not have any overall criteria for height, size and age, as each commercial requires someone different and specific to that job. It is usually necessary to have some acting ability, but this can be natural ability or learned. There are many different types of TV commercials, ranging from the highly stylised photographic, to the performance led reality style. The great advantage in TV commercials for a model is that brands are continuously seeking models, which the general public can easily identify with. This opens up the doors to almost everyone, who feels that they have what it takes to work in this sector. Typically those represented by a model or actors agency have a better chance of appearing in TV commercials.

*Real Life Models (People Models) and TV/Film Extras

If you like the idea of modeling, but do not fit into the above categories, then this could be for you. Real life models are used in advertising or corporate campaigns, when companies are looking to represent the everyday person. As a TV/Film Extra you will generally be non-featured (no speaking parts) and in the background of a scene. This can be fun and interesting to be part of, but it can also be long hours with lots of waiting around. The benefits are that if you are flexible with your days, it can be a good way to supplement your income.

Modeling Agencies - Why You Need One

Modeling Agencies - Why You Need a Top Modeling Agency
@Modelshub306
we are often asked the question, "Why do I need a modeling agency, if I can get modeling jobs online?"
The internet has opened up many opportunities for new models, however, it has also opened up many new dangers.
The top reasons you should be represented by a legitimate modeling agency are:
Your Safety
A professional modeling agency will have established relationships with many of their clients. Your agency will know who your clients are, where your job will take place, and most important, they will know that your safety is being addressed at all times; from the safety of your working conditions to the people you will be meeting on set. You need a professional modeling agency to take care of the screening and verification of your clients before you go on jobs.
On the internet you never know who you are going to meet. Accepting modeling jobs from people you have never met and that you have no way of verifying is an extremely risky undertaking. We would not recommend this practice to anyone, however, if you feel you must do it, please, please, please, take someone with you. Never go on this type of booking by yourself! This is good advice even for male models.
Get Paid What You Deserve
When you work with a professional modeling agency you know that you will be getting top PAYMENTS for the work you are doing. For example, if a client wanted to hire you to do a commercial print ad where your image will appear in a magazine, on clothing tags, and on a billboard, would you know what to charge for that? Most models not have idea what a fair price would be and often sell themselves short, missing out on a large chunk of what's due them. A professional modeling agency will make sure that your image is being used in an appropriate manner in consideration of your career objectives.
Many shady clients will hire models online rather than use a professional modeling agency because they know you are inexperienced and they can take advantage of you. Often, they will not pay you what the job is worth, and many times they won't pay you at all. Since you don't really know who they are, you have little recourse to get the money that you deserve. Moreover, you will have no control over where your image will end up. Before you know it your photos will be all over the internet, you didn't get paid for your work, and there's not a thing you can do about it.
More Job Opportunities
Since the best clients such as, big modeling services consumers, always use modeling agencies to find their models, you will be exposed to the best job opportunities. For example, if a particular model that a top client wants to hire is unavailable, you could be presented to that client as an alternative, and voila! you could get the booking. The mere fact that you are in the vicinity of agents, bookers, models, and clients will increase your job prospects by about a 1000 percent!
When you work with online clients you are really at the bottom of the barrel with respect to your job opportunities. You will most likely be doing non-paying modeling jobs and you will get no exposure at all to other clients. It's really a dead-end proposition.
International Exposure
Models can be represented by modeling agencies in different markets. For example, you could have an Agency like @modelshub306 Scouts for international agencies who often visit our modeling agency outside of their own markets to scout for new models. Even if you are working at a local agency in your area, international scouts will often stop by looking for new faces. Most models are discovered simply by being in the right place at the right time. If you are signed to our agency, We all will work together to promote you and guide you through your modeling career.

ASPIRING MODELS, READ AND GET INFORMED!!!

What is a Modeling portfolio?

In simply put – A model portfolio is a collection of photographs.

How important are these photographs?
Critically!!! The first step to getting noticed in the modeling industry is to produce a portfolio that will showcase your work as a model, and your portfolio is a resume and main promotional tool!

The first thing the modeling agencies and fashion industry clients want to see are your pictures. I will never will not schedule an interview without seeing your photographs.

You can find so many advises regarding modeling portfolio and very often they are contradictory to each other. Lets try to clear this subject.

Don’t get confused between two different types of model portfolios:
INITIAL and PROFESSIONAL.

Your first – the INITIAL PORTFOLIO is just for the agencies.
Pictures must show your modeling potential. The best scenario if you shoot photo test with a good professional photographer.

I was talking to photographer and he told me that I need to have 10 – 15 photographs to show to model agency. Is it true?

That is a CLEAR MISLEADING INFORMATION! The photographer is not your friend. His or her goal, stated in the simplest of terms, is to get you to order more photographs and spend more money.
3 – 5 photographs can work perfectly as initial portfolio for female and male models.
• Head shot;
• Full-length shot showing proportion of your body;
• Fashion
• Action.

Please follow these tips when shooting your initial portfolio and submitting your photos to modeling agencies.

• Submit clear photos that are in focus.
• Submit at least one headshot and a full length shot.
• Keep make-up to a minimum.
• Keep hairstyles simple and well groomed. Overly fancy hairstyles can result in your photos being rejected.
• Keep clothing simple and in good taste. Remove jewellery.
• Always include your name, age, height, measurements, phone number, email address and city you live in.
• Include any experience or training that you have.
• Write your name, stats and contact information on the back of each of your photos.
• Submit photos that are in good taste.
• Remember that first impressions are important.
• Pay attention to your grooming and overall appearance.
• Pay attention to the background in your photos. Try to shoot photos against a plain wall or outdoors.
• Female models should take photos in a two-piece swimsuit.
• Male models should take photos in shorts with no shirt.

If you can’t afford professional photographs, you can use snapshots. What matters: they suppose to be GOOD. If they are bad – your career may never get started. You must help agent to become interested in you. Pictures must show to agents that you are worth to invest in you time and energy.

What does it mean – good pictures?
Pictures which can show your great modeling potential.

If you are going to use several different styles outfits for portfolio shooting,
it will be very helpful to practice in front of mirror wearing those outfits before you go to a photographic studio.

Only when you were accepted by an agency you can begin to create your professional portfolio and ZED CARD. If you do it before you can just waste your money.
Once a modeling agency agrees to represent you, you will need photographs for your PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO.

The photographs typically are taken in separate photo sessions with different photographers, each using different clothes, makeup, and hair styles.

If for any reason all photographs must be shot in one session by one photographer, a model should look different in all photographs. Please be sure you come with a make-up kit: shades of lip gloss, powder, foundation, eye liner, mascara, lip liner, and lipstick is urgent. Please make sure your hair and nails are done. Manicure and pedicure are mandatory.
The usual practice for modelling agencies to send models for test shootings to different photographers. The normal agency always has the list of photographers which they can recommend to the models. Test shootings usually are the main source of filling of a modeling portfolio.
